Happy New Year!

I want to wish - from the bottom of my heart - happy new year to everyone!

May the new year bring happiness to all the people and a brand new start to whoever really needs it! ;)

How do you plan celebrating the new year's eve? I am going to be with my family and after the year changes I will be dancing at some disco with my fiance and probably with my best friend and her boyfriend.

Enjoy this time of the year without stress... it is once a year!

Be happy! :)

Music Quiz - How many music groups can you identify?

I was surfing the other day the internet and I found this really cool music quiz!! I am a music fan, so I tried my best! I identified lots of groups, but still, there are quite a few that I can't recognize (probably older groups). So far my score is 47, but I'm still working on it! :)

Well, here is the link where you can download it: http://www.republicradio.gr/dls/quiz.zip

It is a MS Office Excel file and you must fill in the blanks. If you got it right, the word "correct" appears under the photo. If not, your answer is wrong and you must try again!

I am looking forward to your comments! Which photos did you find really hard?

Faithless - To All New Arrivals (2006)

The big comeback of Faithless is here! The album just got out last month (November 2006) and is very HOT! Their sound is more mature than ever! You can listen to the whole CD from the beginning 'till the end with great pleasure. I only wish it was summer and that I was sunbathing near the sea listening to it.

You will surely pay attention to the track "Last This Day" featuring Dido. I LOVE her voice.

Maxi Jazz will "travel" you throughout the CD with his well-known style.

I am really happy that they are back with this very good album. Here is the tracklist:

1. Bombs Feat. Harry Collier
2. Spiders, Crocodiles & Kryptonite Feat. Robert Smith
3. Music Matters Feat. Cass Fox
4. Nate’s Tune
5. I Hope
6. Last This Day Feat. Dido
7. To All New Arrivals Feat. Harry Collier
8. Hope & Glory Feat. One Eskimo
9. A Kind of Peace Feat. Cat Power
10. The Man In You
11. Emergency

More comments will follow. I have to go now... Time to work. Will edit later. :)

Part II:

Well I'm back and it's time for some more elaborate comments since I've just now listened to the CD with more attention:

#2:
While listening to the second track I really got stuck! I recognized from the very start that this song uses a sample from a very well known song, but I couldn't remember witch one was that! And then it hit me! It's a sample from The Cure's Lullaby and I must say that they used it in a very smart way!

#3:
Wow! I adored this one! Well, I am a big fan of dance tracks with good vocals especially by women singers. I searched around for the lyrics, but I guess it's too soon. But I enjoy very much listening to songs and trying to write down the lyrics. So, here they are, from me with love:

Faithless - Music Matters

Fot all those who stood up and counted
For all those for whom money was no motive
For all for whom music was a message
I want to thank you for making me
That emotion (?)
Never more wise and courageous

You told me to look much further
You told me to want much more
You told me the music matters
Let's chase those dogs back from my door

I won't stop here
I won't be still
Until the sun sets
On us all

Maxi Jazz:

Under the sheets with my radio
Turned down low
So nobody know
It's the late night show
Hoping to hear Hey Joe

Jimmy was my hero
Kate blown by the top hour (?)
to visit the true star (?)
From ????????
Curtis
Mayfield

[I give up... He speaks very fast!] :S

You told me to look much further
You told me to want much more
You told me the music matters
Let's chase those dogs back from my door

I won't stop here
I won't be still
Until the sun sets
On us all

Refrain to fade...

On the radio...

It was high time that I discovered this radio station witch is completely different from anything else around!

The radio station I'm talking about is Republic 100,3 fm (in Thessaloniki, Greece), but you can also listen to it via its official webpage.

The last two days I've listened to some great tunes that really make you travel! The producer that plays music around 16:00 puts some wonderful and atmospheric songs! I adored the following ones:

Late Night Alumni - Empty Streets (Seamus Haji & Paul Emmanuel Remix)
Lawrence - Along The Wire (Superpitcher Remix)

They reminded me the period when we used to listen to songs like "children", "clubbed to death", "barber's adagio for strings" etc...

If you know more of that genre please feel free to suggest some songs! :)

A picture is worth a thousand words!

There's this saying! And I believe it is so totally true! I can't imagine myself going in places without my camera! I like very much taking photos, especially of beautiful places and landscapes! If there's something I like I can stand there for some time until I am sure that I am going to capture it the way I imagine it.

The photo in the main page is taken by me. Well the analysis is poor because I had to minimize it.

I must say my favorite themes are sunshines, the sea, clouds, the nature, and everything that has to do with Christmas!

You can see some of my pictures in http://danah.deviantart.com

I don't post often. I have so many many photos taken that I can't easily decide witch one to upload hehe!

Thoughts about music in 2006

Here I am again. I wanted for so long to publish my thoughts regarding one of my biggest passions in life... music!

So... I must confess that the last 2 years I am quite disappointed about the way things are going. I know that music is a very personal thing, and that the music I adore, another person can detest it. I am 26 years old, but this thing that's happening lately I can't recall never happening before. What am I referring to? Well, this whole madness about R'n'B and rap. These genres have existed for very long, and there are some very respectful artists. But they co-existed with rock artists, with pop artists, with dance artists etc.

A few years back we couldn't stop dancing to house and disco-house tunes! Nowadays, the artists that make full dance cds and/or dance-hits are very few. Thank god there's still Madonna who with her "Confessions on a dancefloor" album revived the disco but with a very modern style. :)

I find this new reality in music quite sad.

Furthermore.... when was the last time that you heard a rock artist or group that really ROCKS!?!?!
Besides Bon Jovi who are always here and whose music rocks - in my opinion - every time, there are not many groups worth mentioning. Sure, there are new names, but do they or will they last?

I have to say that they don't even make ballads like they used to do. There are some that I like, but I don't think I will be listening to them after 4 or 5 years. On the contrary, I listen with great pleasure ballads written by Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams.

I don't know what's happening in other countries, but these are the facts where I live.

On the radio you have in one hand stations that play almost 24/7 r'n'b and rap and in the other hand stations whose playlist is limited to the 80s and 90s (with some new songs also). As you can imagine I listen to the second ones.

I don't know if it is the internet and the mp3s to blame for this whole new situation in music. I don't think so. Because if that was true, there wouldn't be a success in R'n'B neither. Maybe a lack of inspiration in the new generation? Who knows?

My only wish is that things will change soon, so that people can enjoy good pop, rock and dance music again!

Prison Break

I loved this show from the very beginning! I can't wait for January so I can watch what will happen next! I think that all the actors are great (especially Wentworth Miller!). I read some of his interviews on the internet and in magazines and I have to say that he seems very serious and down-to-earth. He hasn't changed from the sudden success and I appreciate this very much in actors.
