Thoughts about music in 2006

Here I am again. I wanted for so long to publish my thoughts regarding one of my biggest passions in life... music!

So... I must confess that the last 2 years I am quite disappointed about the way things are going. I know that music is a very personal thing, and that the music I adore, another person can detest it. I am 26 years old, but this thing that's happening lately I can't recall never happening before. What am I referring to? Well, this whole madness about R'n'B and rap. These genres have existed for very long, and there are some very respectful artists. But they co-existed with rock artists, with pop artists, with dance artists etc.

A few years back we couldn't stop dancing to house and disco-house tunes! Nowadays, the artists that make full dance cds and/or dance-hits are very few. Thank god there's still Madonna who with her "Confessions on a dancefloor" album revived the disco but with a very modern style. :)

I find this new reality in music quite sad.

Furthermore.... when was the last time that you heard a rock artist or group that really ROCKS!?!?!
Besides Bon Jovi who are always here and whose music rocks - in my opinion - every time, there are not many groups worth mentioning. Sure, there are new names, but do they or will they last?

I have to say that they don't even make ballads like they used to do. There are some that I like, but I don't think I will be listening to them after 4 or 5 years. On the contrary, I listen with great pleasure ballads written by Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams.

I don't know what's happening in other countries, but these are the facts where I live.

On the radio you have in one hand stations that play almost 24/7 r'n'b and rap and in the other hand stations whose playlist is limited to the 80s and 90s (with some new songs also). As you can imagine I listen to the second ones.

I don't know if it is the internet and the mp3s to blame for this whole new situation in music. I don't think so. Because if that was true, there wouldn't be a success in R'n'B neither. Maybe a lack of inspiration in the new generation? Who knows?

My only wish is that things will change soon, so that people can enjoy good pop, rock and dance music again!
